Truck knocks out power pole, again

Last Updated: Tuesday, November 3, 2009 | 10:11 PM CT

Traffic along a major Saskatoon thoroughfare was snarled for most of Tuesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer truck collided with a power pole, the second such incident in less than two weeks.

The driver of the wayward truck was in a predicament after the crash brought down live power lines. The man was not injured so was told to stay in truck's cab until it was safe to exit.

Crews from Saskatoon Light and Power were quickly on the scene to shut off power to the downed lines.

Police stopped traffic along several blocks, from 25th Street to 33rd Street, while repair crews worked on the downed lines.

The accident disrupted electricity to parts of a nearby vocational school campus, the Harry Bailey pool and some homes in the area.

The accident was strikingly similar to another collision between a tractor-trailer unit and a light standard, also on Idylwyld Drive, just 11 days ago.
