The Action Démocratique du Québec and Parti Québécois together picked up three former Liberal seats in the Lac-Saint-Jean-Saguenay region.
The ADQ broke into the region by taking the former Liberal riding of Chauveau with 58 per cent of the popular vote during Monday's provincial election.
The PQ took former Liberal seats in:
- Jonquière, where Sylvain Gaudreault won 39 per cent of the popular vote, despite the controversial prediction of a local radio host that the region's factory workers would not elect him because he is gay.
- Roberval, where Denis Trottier took 42 per cent of the popular vote.
The PQ was also re-elected in:
- Dubuc with 38 per cent of the popular vote.
- Duplessis with 45 per cent of the popular vote.
