The Liberals again took the five ridings in federalist western Quebec that make up the Outaouais.
Four Liberals were re-elected Monday in the region near the Ontario border where many federal public servants make their home:
- Benoît Pelletier in Chapleau riding, with 45 per cent of the popular vote.
- Roch Cholette in Hull riding, with 43 per cent of the popular vote.
- Norman MacMillan in Papineau riding, with 39 per cent of the popular vote.
- Charlotte L'Écuyer in Pontiac riding, with 58 per cent of the popular vote.
Liberal candidate Stéphanie Vallée took 45 per cent of the popular vote to win the seat in Gatineau riding previously held by fellow Liberal Réjean Lafrenière.
Although the Liberals held onto the region, they lost more than 14 per cent of the popular vote in all five ridings compared to 2003, with most of the gains going to the ADQ.
