Quebec Liberal candidate Philippe Couillard is warning voters an ADQ government would slash core public services to finance its policies.
The ADQ's $1.7-billion platform includes a pledge to cut government spending by one per cent, and reduce the number of Quebecers on welfare by 25,000, two projections Couillard says are badly miscalculated.
"It does mean severe cuts in health care and education," he told CBC Wednesday night.
"Questions have to be asked when we are told that 25,000 people on welfare will be going back to work: Oh yes? Which ones?"
ADQ Leader Mario Dumont said it may take some convincing to get welfare beneficiaries back to work, but Quebec has programs for that purpose, and it would save the province millions of dollars.
"The best measures include those that give people a little push," he said in a radio interview in Trois-Rivières on Tuesday.
Dumont won't elaborate on what measures he'd take to enforce his proposed welfare policy, but said it is possible to make the cuts he wants.
