A fifth person, unnamed as yet, has joined the race to lead the Progressive Conservative Party of P.E.I.
There are four declared candidates: Jamie Fox, Olive Crane, Peter Llewellyn and Fred McCardle. The fifth person put in an application Friday, before the final deadline of 4 p.m.
While the person's name will not be officially released until the party has reviewed the application, the Charlottetown Guardian is reporting it is former environment minister Jamie Ballem.
Ballem was an MLA for 11 years before losing his seat to Liberal Robert Vessey during the 2007 election. Pat Binns quit as leader after the party lost that election to the Liberals.
The credentials evaluation committee, which has approved the first four candidates, will review the new application within 10 days.
The leadership convention takes place Oct. 2.
