The executive director of the P.E.I. Association for Newcomers to Canada is leaving his job.
Kevin Arsenault says he has accomplished what he set out to. (CBC) Kevin Arsenault told CBC News on Tuesday he has been in the position for 10 years and feels he's accomplished what he set out to, and it's time to move on.
When Arsenault started at the association in 1999 it had a few part-time staff members and 100 clients, mainly government-sponsored refugees. Now, he said, a staff of 25 assists about 2,000 people to get settled on the Island.
"I think things are very good for the organization," said Arsenault.
"There's always going to be room for building and developing and certainly accommodating services to the special needs of clients. But, for the most part, I think the main organization that I kind of envisioned as being needed for the Island is in place. So, carry on from there."
His last day on the job will be Dec. 24.
Arsenault said he does not have another job lined up, but is exploring options that include acting as a consultant on agricultural and immigration issues.
He is also wrapping up his job as Atlantic representative on the Canadian Council for Refugees.
