One hundred new English language training spaces have been added to classes for newcomers in Charlottetown.
Fifty of the seats opened Monday and another 50 will open this coming Monday. This week's seats were paid for by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and the tab for next week's is being picked up by P.E.I.'s Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning.
Immigrants on the Island were expressing frustration in September because they could not get into English classes. The waiting list was at least 75 people, and some were being told it would be almost a year before they could get into classes.
The immigrants need to learn English in order to get back a deposit they paid to the government.
These new seats should clear the waiting list.
