An inmate at Charlottetown's Sleepy Hollow Correctional Centre has been sentenced to an additional eight months in jail for assaulting a guard.
Marshall Andrew Vuozzo, 19, of St. Peter's, had pleaded guilty to assaulting James Gary Wood in August when Wood was leading a group of inmates to the gym for exercise.
Vuozzo's lawyer said three "more seasoned" inmates urged him to assault the guard. Vuozzo threw salt in the man's face, then punched him several times.
The incident, which lasted less than 30 seconds, was captured on a security camera.
Wood is on medical leave.
Vuozzo was sentenced to five months for the assault and three months for numerous other unrelated offences.
He will be on probation for 18 months once he is released from jail.
