Teen accused of posting threats on Facebook

A P.E.I. teen is facing two charges of uttering threats following an investigation into postings on Facebook indicating there would be a shooting at Charlottetown Rural High School.
The Queens County, 16, boy cannot be named due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Det. Randy Currie, who is with Charlottetown police's major crime unit, said the investigation involved interviews with more than a dozen students and extensive work on the social networking website.
"We use Facebook like anyone else uses Facebook: We'll go to the profile; find out any names associated to it; look at various posts if, in fact ,we can — if that particular name on Facebook allows us to do that," Currie said.
"From that, we'll utilize what knowledge we gathered from it to conduct our interviews within the group or within the community — or in this case within the school."
Security was increased at the school on Oct. 14 after someone posted a note on Facebook warning there would be a shooting there that day.
Eastern School District superintendent Sandy MacDonald said the youth has already faced disciplinary action at his school.
The accused teen will appear in youth court on Monday, Nov. 23.
