P.E.I.'s only nudist resort is reporting its busiest summer ever and the owner credits good reviews in an international guide.
When the Oasis in Cavendish opened four years ago, it was met with controversy.
Some tourist operators in Cavendish complained at a public meeting that it should not be allowed, but the controversy hasn't kept naturists away.
Owner Gary Lowther said the number of visitors has been increasing every year.
This year, the World Guide to Nude Beaches and Resorts named the Oasis one of the best resorts in the country. Lowther said that exposure helped make this past summer the busiest by far, with a 25 per cent increase in occupancy over last season.
"All that helps, too. Anytime you have reviews in any type of magazine or a book, if they're good, then it certainly helps you out for sure," he said.
"It's nice to see even if one certainly wasn't striving for something like that, but it's nice to see one is doing something nice."
Lowther said he was close to full for the whole summer, with 90 per cent occupancy. He said many guests told him they booked his four-star resort after seeing the writeup in the World Guide to Nude Beaches and Resorts.
Lowther is continuing to book for the Thanksgiving weekend, as naturists seek the last few rays of sunshine before covering up for the winter.
