Progressive Conservative candidates picked up all of their handful of successes in the eastern part of Prince Edward Island on Monday, as Liberals swept the rest of the province.
Tory Leader Pat Binns was one of four Progressive Conservatives declared elected in Eastern P.E.I., taking his district of Belfast-Murray River. The others were:
- Fisheries Minister Jim Bagnall in the district of Montague-Kilmuir.
- Development Minister Mike Currie in Georgetown-St. Peters.
- Olive Crane in Morell-Mermaid.
The eastern part of P.E.I. has a long history of supporting the Tories.
Federally, Binns represented the district of Cardigan for four years in the 1980s.
Only two of the six eastern districts went to the Liberals. One was Souris-Elmira, where Allan Campbell beat Tory incumbent Andy Moony, and the other was Vernon River-Stratford, where Alan McIsaac defeated Allan Fraser.
