All but two members of Pat Binns's outgoing Progressive Conservative cabinet were defeated as P.E.I. voters soundly bounced the Tories from office Monday night.
Eight of the nine Tory ministers ran for office again in the 28-day campaign. One, attorney general Mildred Dover, retired from provincial politics.
Here are the results for Progressive Conservative cabinet ministers from the previous session who ran again:
- Mike Currie (development and technology). Riding: Georgetown-St. Peters. ELECTED
- Jim Bagnall (agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture) Riding: Montague-Kilmuir. ELECTED
- Chester Gillan (health, social services, seniors) Riding: Charlottetown-Sherwood. DEFEATED
- Mitch Murphy (treasurer) Riding: Kensington-Malpeque. DEFEATED
- Jamie Ballem (environment, energy and forestry) Riding: York-Oyster Bed. DEFEATED
- Gail Shea (transportation and public works) Riding: Tignish-Palmer Road. DEFEATED
- Elmer MacFadyen (community and cultural affairs) Riding: Tracadie-Hillsborough Park. DEFEATED
- Philip Brown (tourism) Riding: Tyne Valley-Linkletter. DEFEATED
Liberal Leader Robert Ghiz's party took 23 of the provincial legislature's 27 seats. Ghiz is expected to be sworn in as P.E.I.'s next premier on June 13.
