The Progressive Conservatives say they will build a youth addictions facility in Prince County if they form the next government.
'You'll find that most of these items were discussed in that budget.'— Pat Binns
The news came out as part of the release of the party's health platform Friday in Summerside. Most of the platform is a reiteration of the budget that died on the floor of the legislature when the May 28 election was called.
"What we're essentially doing here is continuing to lay out the provincial budget we presented to the house," said Premier Pat Binns.
"You'll find that most of these items were discussed in that budget with the dollar figures addressed."
The Tories' health-care blueprint, which touches on 51 commitments, would reduce waiting times in the province. Some of the commitments were not included in the budget — 15 new nurse practitioners and a plan to assist low-income Islanders who have diabetes.
For Summerside residents at the announcement, word that the youth addictions facility would go in Prince County was the big news.
"We are looking at facilities in the Summerside area," said Binns.
"There are just some details still to be worked out. And I don't like to make announcements until all those have been taken care of."
The Binns government committed to a youth addictions facility just before Christmas, and at the time Health Minister Chester Gillan said it would be operating by the spring.
