Serious collision sends 7 to hospital

Seven people were taken to hospital after a major four-car accident on south Bank Street Wednesday morning, according to the Ottawa paramedic service.

A tot with serious injuries was among the victims, police said.

The force of the collision left the vehicles so badly damaged the Jaws of Life were needed to get some of the injured out of the vehicles.

Before transporting the victims to hospital, paramedics treated:

  • A 14-month-old boy with serious head injuries who is in serious condition.
  • A man, 41, who was unconscious with head injuries and facial lacerations. He is also in serious condition.
  • A woman, 31, with head and facial injuries who is in serious but stable condition.
  • A man, 30, with neck pain who is in stable condition.
  • A man, 45, with facial injuries who is in stable condition.
  • A boy, 12, with minor neck pain who is in stable condition.
  • A boy, 5, with minor neck pain who is in stable condition.

The vehicles collided on Bank Street just north of Leitrim, between Findlay Creek Drive and Blais Road in the early part of the morning commute.

Ottawa police reopened Bank Street by mid-afternoon after completing their accident reconstruction.
