Ont. health unit has vaccine to spare

Last Updated: Monday, November 2, 2009 | 5:10 PM ET

The medical officer of health for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit says no one was turned away from the region's swine flu vaccination clinics last weekend and the health unit has doses of vaccine left over.

Speaking on a media teleconference Monday, Dr. Paul Roumeliotis said 20,700 people showed up at six clinics for priority patients in Alexandria, Casselman, Chesterville, Cornwall, Hawkesbury and Rockland, Ont.

Roumeliotis said for the most part, only high-risk patients showed up, and while clinic lineups were long in some areas Friday, the wait times improved at both the Saturday and Sunday clinics.

Roumeliotis said while there were some Ottawa residents in the lineup, it did not pose a problem.

The clinics will open again this Friday.
