OPP identify students killed in Kamaniskeg Lake mishap

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the bodies of two college students pulled from a lake southeast of Algonquin Park after their minivan broke through the ice.
Paul Sanders, 24, of Mitchell, Ont., died after the van he was riding in plunged through the ice on a lake near Algonquin Park.

Janine Lieu, 22, of Vancouver, B.C., and Paul Sanders, 24, of Mitchell, Ont., died after the minivan fell into Kamaniskeg Lake on Saturday afternoon, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the Bancroft OPP detachment.
Foul play is not suspected and police will not be releasing further information, the release said.
The two victims and two other students from Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy were travelling south in the minivan from Barry's Bay at the north end of the lake to shop in Combermere, at the lake's south end. The lake is about 165 kilometres west of Ottawa.
Janine Lieu, 22, of Vancouver, B.C., was also killed in the incident. Two other students managed to escape the vehicle and spent a night in a nearby cottage.

After the ice broke beneath the vehicle, two of the students managed to escape to a nearby cottage, where they spent the night before calling police.
OPP divers managed to recover the bodies of the two others on Monday morning.
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy is a private, Roman Catholic college in Barry's Bay that offers postsecondary liberal arts programs to about 60 full-time students and 22 part-time students.
