Green party to release policies on environment, sustainability

Last Updated: Sunday, May 17, 2009 | 7:50 PM ET

The Green Party of Nova Scotia was a mere five weeks old when the last provincial election was called in 2006.

But Leader Ryan Watson points out that the Greens were still able to field candidates in all 52 ridings and capture 2.3 per cent of the popular vote.

Watson is confident the Greens can bring that kind of energy and commitment to the current campaign. He says their goal is to dramatically increase voter share in the June 9 election.

The Greens plan a series of policy releases later this week that will offer ideas for building a strong, sustainable economy.

Watson says they will include a transition away from fossil fuel dependence and promotion of tidal, solar and wind energy, along with local food production.
