Tories pledge cut to red tape

Last Updated: Friday, May 15, 2009 | 11:59 AM ET

PC Leader Rodney MacDonald is promising to cut red tape for Nova Scotia businesses and residents.

Speaking at a shoe store in Sydney on Friday, MacDonald said the Tories would eliminate an old regulation every time they implement a new one.

He promised to reduce the number of permits and regulations in all sectors, from restaurants and tourism to alcohol and gaming.

"We are doing this in conjunction with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business and other business groups. We are doing this within our Treasury and Policy Board," he said.

"Our intention is to make sure that if a business is applying for a permit, within 10 days they see a turnaround on that permit."

MacDonald said previous initiatives by his government have already eased the burden on businesses and saved them more than $1 million. Nova Scotians go to the polls on June 9.
