Halifax RCMP recovered two guns and ammunition at an East Preston home Wednesday afternoon that they believe were stolen two days earlier from a garage in a neighbouring community.
More than a dozen RCMP vehicles, led by the emergency response team, descended on the house on Partridge River Road. Police said they were acting on a tip that the home contained a cache of guns stolen from nearby Lake Echo early Monday.
No one was home at the East Preston residence when police arrived, RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said.
People who live in the house did show up later, he said, and the search warrant was served on them.
“But none of them were suspects in our search,” Taplin said.
After searching the home, officers recovered two guns, ammunition, a lawn mower and other gardening equipment.
An all-terrain vehicle was also seized, but Taplin said police believe it had been taken in another robbery.
At the Lake Echo break-in, Taplin said the thief smashed in the gargage window, opened the door, and made off with five guns and a green ATV - the same colour as one police spotted roaring up the highway as they were heading to raid the East Preston house.
“We believe one of the suspects possibly might have fled on an ATV, and left the scene as we were coming in to the scene here,” Taplin said.
