Search for injured in stolen car crash ends

(CBC)The search for anyone who might have been injured when a stolen car crashed into a car dealership parking lot in Dartmouth, N.S., early Sunday morning has been called off.
Halifax police took the unusual step of calling in search-and-rescue crews about 11 a.m. AT because they were concerned about the driver and possible passengers, based on the damage to the abandoned car and the amount of blood found at the scene, Sgt. Gordon Graham had said.
The search was called off by early evening after more than 50 searchers and three dog teams failed to turn up anything, he said.
The car skidded across a median and two lanes of traffic, went through a bus shelter and hit a couple of light standards before smashing into four vehicles in the Fairley & Stevens parking lot, Graham said.
Police discovered the accident after receiving a call about two cars racing in the area at about 4:30 a.m. AT, he said.
"It was a Chrysler Sebring that did all the damage and that vehicle had been reported stolen from Sackville earlier in the night … and from the damage to the vehicle, we had some concerns that the driver and or any other occupants could have been injured in the crash."
About 50 people from the Halifax Regional Search and Rescue participated in the search. (CBC)Searchers spent the afternoon scouring the area, including containers at a nearby industrial park — "anywhere a person might seek shelter," said Tony Rodgers, spokesman for Halifax Regional Search and Rescue.
"It's rare for us to come out and be involved in a situation like this," he said. "We want to make sure that the person who has left the scene is found and treated for those injuries, whatever those might be."
No injuries relating to the crash have been reported, police said.
