The search for a Halifax sailor, who is missing somewhere between Nova Scotia and Bermuda, has been scaled back until Sunday.

Hubert Marcoux, a 68-year-old experienced sailor, left Eastern Passage alone on Nov. 9 in his 14-metre sailboat Mon Pays.

He was expected to arrive in Bermuda on Nov. 16, but nobody has heard from him.

Five fixed-wing aircraft searched for Marcoux from first light until nightfall Saturday without success, said operations specialist Colin Rafferty of the search-and-rescue team in Norfolk, Va.

The air patrol will resume on Sunday morning, he said.

Searchers are using software that looks at winds, tides and currents to try to predict where Marcoux's sailboat might be drifting.

Officials say Marcoux would have encountered at least four days of rough weather at sea, with winds up to 60 knots and 10-metre seas.

Marcoux has spent 18 years sailing around the world.
