The popular Halifax Public Gardens will stay open another couple of weeks, as long as the weather co-operates.
The historic park in central Halifax is usually closed from Nov. 12 until the Mother's Day weekend in May, to protect the pathways from sand and salt damage over the winter.
But the Halifax Regional Municipality says people want the park to stay open longer, so it will now remain open until the end of the month, unless there's too much snow and ice.
The Victorian-style park dates to the 1830s. Several additions were added in the ensuing decades, culminating in its current size in 1874.
The park was severely damaged when Hurricane Juan tore through Nova Scotia in 2003. The gardens had to be rebuilt, and the ponds, waterfalls and brook completely redone.
