Roads and bridges in Nova Scotia will be upgraded, thanks to almost $25 million in stimulus funding announced Friday by the federal minister responsible for the Atlantic Gateway.
Peter MacKay said this is the latest in a series of announcements on stimulus spending to create jobs and improve infrastructure.
This spending will pay to twin a section of road between Sydney River and Grand Lake Road, on either side of the central part of Sydney.
"With this funding, work will soon get underway for the twinning of Highway 125," MacKay said at a news conference in Dartmouth. "Highway 125 in Cape Breton is one of the busiest two lane, two-way highways in the province with traffic volume of over 1,500 vehicles per day."
The money will also be used to improve the bridge over the Hume River in Victoria County, Cape Breton.
On mainland Nova Scotia, MacKay said, there will be major repairs to the East River Bridge along Highway 7 near Sheet Harbour.
These ventures will be cost-shared with the provincial government.
