Bell Aliant and EastLink have found a fix for customers who experienced a disruption in email communications over the past few weeks.
Some internet customers served by Bell Aliant had not been receiving emails sent by businesses signed up with EastLink.
Both Bell Aliant and EastLink said Wednesday that the disruption was the result of a heavier than usual world-wide volume of junk mail.
Neither company would specify how many customers were affected by the glitch, saying that only a "limited number" of customers had a problem involving emails sent between EastLink and Sympatico addresses.
Customers were not aware the messages had not reached their destinations.
Brian Hicks, president of Coronis Solutions, an internet marketing company, whose email wasn't working properly, received a phone call from Aliant Wednesday to explain that the problem has been corrected.
"Aliant had taken the position that they were adding the EastLink domain to a white list. In other words, they were going to let the traffic go through without managing it, or blocking it, to keep traffic flowing. And that's a good thing," he said.
"We all suffer from too much spam. So, hopefully, both companies can work together to figure out how to let legitimate email through, and block all this other stuff that everybody, unfortunately, gets."
