Driver dies in crash on HRM street

Last Updated: Tuesday, November 3, 2009 | 10:46 AM AT

A 20-year-old man was killed when his car smashed into a utility pole in the Halifax Regional Municipality on Monday.

The crash happened on Hammonds Plains Road just before 9:30 p.m.

The RCMP said it appears the driver lost control of his new Volkswagen Rabbit, slipped off the edge of the road and hit the pole.

The driver died on the way to the hospital. His name has not been released.

Traffic collision analysts with the RCMP are trying to determine whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
