The IWK Health Centre cancelled all children's elective surgeries Monday because of water damage in several operating rooms.

Jocelyn Vine, vice-president of patient care at the Halifax hospital, said staff found water on the floor.

"Any water leaking into an operating room would be considered a major cause for concern. There was enough there that it had to be mopped up," she said.

Vine said emergency operations are taking place in another wing and cancelled surgeries will be rebooked.

Elective surgeries for women are not affected.

Hospital officials say children's elective surgeries scheduled for Tuesday will proceed as planned.

The IWK provides care to children and women from around the Maritimes.
