Weekend snowstorm heading to Yukon

People in Whitehorse and Haines Junction, Yukon, can expect lots of snow and strong winds coming their way this weekend, according to Environment Canada.
Forecasters issued a wind warning Friday for the two Yukon communities, as well as a snowfall warning for Mayo and Dawson City and the Haines Road and South Klondike Highway.
A deep low-pressure system developing in the Gulf of Alaska is heading into the Yukon on Friday night and Saturday, Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist told CBC News.
"Along with it is coming some very crazy weather for the Yukon," Lundquist said.
"We have a wind warning out for Whitehorse — winds 70 to 90 kilometres per hour developing overnight. It will develop probably Saturday morning in the Haines Junction area."
Dawson City and Mayo could see up to 20 centimetres of snow starting overnight, while the areas around the highways may get closer to 40 centimetres, Lundquist added.
Environment Canada has also issued a blizzard warning along the Dempster Highway, with winds gusting up to 90 kilometres an hour and snowfall topping 20 centimetres near the southern section.
Conditions are expected to improve late Saturday as the low-pressure system moves east into the Northwest Territories.
