Backhoe accident damages Iqaluit house
Last Updated: Thursday, November 5, 2009 | 5:12 PM CT
CBC News
No one was seriously injured when an excavator rolled over and damaged a house in Iqaluit on Thursday.
Around 2:15 p.m. ET, the backhoe rolled over and clipped the eaves of House 650.
No one in the house was hurt, and everyone fled the building safely.
The machine was working on a utility corridor — a shelter for utility lines — when it tipped into a trench that had been dug for the pipe.
A city bylaw officer on the scene told CBC News that the operator suffered minor injuries from broken glass.
An ambulance was at the scene, as well as RCMP officers and members of the N.W.T. and Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission of the N.W.T. and Nunavut.
