N.L. fugitive surrenders to police

A man who police on the west coast of Newfoundland considered armed and dangerous turned himself in on Thursday morning.

The RCMP said Larry Hickey, 39, was wanted on charges of uttering threats, pointing a firearm and dangerous use of a weapon.

The charges are related to an incident on Wednesday in the tiny community of John's Beach, in the Bay of Islands, in which a gun was allegedly pointed and fired over a man's head after Hickey's ex-wife and her boyfriend went to Hickey's house to get some of the woman's property.

A news release from police said Hickey turned himself in to the RCMP at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

While Hickey was on the loose, police said he had a rifle and possibly some handguns and described him as dangerous.
