Labrador hockey tournament sidelined by H1N1

Last Updated: Monday, November 2, 2009 | 11:45 AM NT

Concern about the spread of swine flu led to the postponement of a minor hockey tournament in Labrador involving more than 500 young players.

Officials with the recreation department in Labrador City said the annual Alvin Parril Memorial minor hockey tournament has been postponed until December, following a meeting with health officials about the H1N1 virus.

Teams from Churchill Falls, Happy-Valley Goose Bay and Western Labrador were all registered to play in the event this coming weekend.

Organizer say the tournament will now start Dec. 4, after people in the region have had an opportunity to be immunized.
