Dogs drowned, frozen, tossed in dumpster: police

Last Updated: Friday, October 30, 2009 | 1:54 PM NT

Police in western Labrador are investigating what happened to an adult dog and several puppies that were found dead in late October behind the Royal Canadian Legion in Wabush.

Police say it appears the animals were stuffed into beef buckets, drowned, frozen and then tossed into a dumpster.

The case was investigated by animal control officers initially but Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers say they are now working on it, too.

Police believe the animals were placed in the dumpster in Wabush, near Newfoundland and Labrador's boundary with Quebec, between Oct. 12 and Oct. 19.

The adult dog is described as white, weighing approximately five to eight kilograms.
