Toddler drowns in pool in Conception Bay South

Last Updated: Thursday, July 9, 2009 | 4:31 PM NT

A young boy drowned in Conception Bay South Wednesday evening.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary say the 15-month-old died accidentally in a residential pool in the Topsail area of the town.

Police got the call from the ambulance service shortly after 8 p.m.

The boy was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"The incident's very tragic of course. We don't believe it to be suspicious. And it's being investigated by members of our major crime unit. We would determine the circumstances the best we can about why this tragedy occurred," said RNC Const. Shawn O'Reilly.

O'Reilly said the parents of the boy are a young couple and they have another child who is three years old.
