Witnesses may hold clues in fatal Outer Ring Road accident: RNC

Last Updated: Thursday, July 2, 2009 | 3:16 PM NT

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary renewed calls Thursday for witnesses to shed light on what happened before a fatal collision in which a cyclist hit a truck parked beside a busy highway.

Cyclist Mike Dinn, 48, died Tuesday afternoon of injuries he sustained after striking a large truck parked on the shoulder of the Outer Ring Road last Friday.

The crew of a Kent Building Supplies truck had pulled over near the Portugal Cove Road interchange to secure the truck's load.

Const. Paul Davis said Thursday that police are still trying to figure out what happened, and are hoping witnesses who saw either the cyclist or the truck "could very well be valuable" to the investigation.

"There are a number of plausible explanations," Davis told reporters, adding that a full answer may never be known.

"We may not have final and definite answers as to what happened."
