A hazardous materials team has been called into Fundy High School in St. George after a chemical spill.
A janitor noticed an odour while doing his early-morning rounds Thursday. He went to the chemistry laboratory's closet and discovered that a bottle of an unknown chemical had broken.
The few students who were in the school at the time were told to leave and no one was permitted to enter the building.
Jenny MacDougall, acting superintendent of School District 10, said school is out for the day.
"We're very hopeful that it will just be today because we have the hazardous materials team down there doing the cleanup," MacDougall said. "And we're hoping we'll be fine for tomorrow."
MacDougall said the type of chemical that spilled is still to be determined, but no one has been treated for any ill effects.
