The New Brunswick government is introducing legislation to make the province's community colleges more independent.
Donald Arseneault, the minister of post-secondary education, training and labour, said two boards — one francophone and one anglophone — will be set up for the college system known as NBCC. Each will have its own CEO and president.
"We feel that's going to be more relevant, more accountable to the communities," Arseneault said. "It's more student-focused. They'll be able to adapt even quicker to the changing labour-market needs out there and around our province."
Arseneault said being arm's-length from the government will give the colleges more opportunities to create partnerships with private companies.
The community college has campuses in 11 locations across the province.
