A Saint John police officer broke his foot running after a man, following a high-speed car chase on the city's east side Saturday night.
The man faces charges of impaired driving, fleeing from police and dangerous driving, acting Staff Sgt. David Arsenault said.
The incident began about 10:30 p.m. AT, when the officer spotted a truck going above the speed limit on the Causeway, Arsenault said.
When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the driver, who was already going about 90 km/h in a 70 zone, sped up.
The pursuit only lasted about a minute, but included a few residential streets, where the speed limit is only 50 km/h, Arsenault said.
The driver was forced to stop at a dead end on Second Street, where he fled down a nearby embankment. The officer gave chase and quickly arrested him.
