New Brunswick rolled out a series of new licence plates, including ones featuring the provincial slogan "Be … in this place," on Friday morning in Shediac.

Victor Boudreau, the minister responsible for Communications New Brunswick, revealed the new plates, which will be available on Aug. 4 at Service New Brunswick outlets.

Along with the "Be … in this place" slogan, the plates include the province's new logo and colours that were unveiled more than a year ago.

" 'Be ... in this place' represents the underlining meaning of our brand, which is, in New Brunswick, you can be yourself, be better, and belong," Boudreau said in a statement.

The new plates are also coated with a special reflective coating, which the province says will help police see the plates better.

The new plates are completely optional.

However, for drivers who want them, they may switch their existing personalized plates for $29. New conservation plates will be offered for $32 and regular plates with the new design will be $25.

First redesign since 1991

New Brunswick does not have a slogan on its plates, which have not had a major facelift since 1991.

The province also introduced three new conservation plate designs on Friday. Along with the Atlantic salmon that has traditionally been on the conservation plates, the new plates feature a deer, a black-capped chickadee and a purple violet.

The New Brunswick Wildlife Council receives $7 for each conservation plate that is purchased.

Hank Scarth, chair of the New Brunswick Wildlife Council, said that money is used to support local conservation projects in the province.

"We are confident that the introduction of these new plate designs will result in the sale of a significant number of additional conservation plates to support many worthwhile conservation projects," Scarth said in a statement.
