Doaktown recorded a 3.6 magnitude earthquake on Sunday. (United States Geological Survey)Residents in central New Brunswick got a couple of jolts on Sunday as the Doaktown area was shaken by a series of small earthquakes.
The first earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.6 and struck at 5:16 a.m., and was followed by another tremor of 3.2 at 10:30 a.m., according to the United States Geological Survey's website.
Karen Swim of Doaktown said her dog was acting strangely, and then she heard what she thought was a sonic boom. Swim told CBC News that she didn't think the sound she heard was related to an earthquake until a friend called.
Swim said her friend directed her to the internet where she found that her community was one of a handful of places in the world that reported earthquakes.
"And there we are, in all our glory, little Doaktown, New Brunswick," Swim said.
Swim said there were also after-tremors. There have been no reports of injuries or damage in the Doaktown area after the earthquake.
Earthquakes in the range of three to 3.9 magnitude are considered minor and typically are felt by only a few people, especially by those on upper floors, said the United States Geological Survey. Those who do feel movement do not always recognize it as an earthquake.
