Saint John crews still cleaning up after storm flooding

Post-tropical storm Hanna dumped nearly 140 mm of rain on Saint John by noon Sunday. (Submitted by Christine Rowe)Cleanup efforts continued Tuesday in Saint John after flood waters from post-tropical storm Hanna covered several roads in the port city.
Todd Street between Simpson Drive and Rayland Street remained closed, as did Kennebecasis Drive and Lorneville Road.
City officials were also warning that crews were still working to repair flood damage to roads, shoulders and culverts in the Lorneville Road area, Anthony's Cove Road, Hillcrest Road and Sandy Point Road.
Many streets remain covered in gravel and debris following the more than 139 millimetres of rain dumped on the city over the weekend.
Fire Chief Joe Armstrong said the district department has been working since Sunday to pump water.
More than 120 calls for help came in during the initial 10 hours following the storm, Armstrong said.
It's "starting to wind down a little bit now," Armstrong said. "Since the tide's out and the rain has ceased, it's starting to wrap up a bit and it looks like we're coming to the end of it."
But motorists should continue to us "extreme caution" while the repairs and cleanup continues, city officials said in a release.
