Liberals request Saint John Harbour recount

PC Carl Killen won the seat by 9 votes on Sept. 27

Liberal cabinet minister Ed Doherty has requested a recount into the results of his Saint John Harbour election, which he lost by a mere nine votes on Monday.

Progressive Conservative Carl Killen, who is a Saint John city councillor, defeated Doherty, who has held the riding since a 2005 byelection.

Doherty has an automatic right to a recount because the final margin was so tight.

The recount will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday in front of Justice Hugh McLellan in the Court of Queen's Bench at the provincial building in Saint John.

There were 4,358 ballots cast in the riding.

Killen won with 1,335 votes compared to 1,325 votes cast for Doherty.

The NDP's Wayne Dryer came a close third with 1,202 ballots.

Bathurst Tory candidate Nancy McKay has also requested a recount in her northern riding.
