All the ballots were cast, but in at least three districts the vote-counters quit and went home for the night before the final numbers were tallied.
Out-of-town votes, such as those cast by students attending university away from their home districts, have not all made it back to the relevant ridings. The ballots are expected to arrive in the proper returning office Tuesday and be tallied by the end of the day.
Three ridings that remain undecided due to the quirk are:
- Bathurst.
- Dieppe Centre-Lewisville.
- Fredericton-Nashwaaksis.
When the counting stopped on Monday night in Dieppe Centre-Lewisville, PC incumbent Cy LeBlanc was hanging on to a tenuous 58-vote lead over Liberal Bruno Roy.
In Fredericton-Nashwaaksis, incumbent T.J. Burke led PC Mike Smith by 152 votes.
In Bathurst, Liberal incumbent Brian Kenny led PC Nancy MacKay by 193 votes.
