Liberal Leader Shawn Graham has been re-elected in his riding of Kent, continuing a Liberal dynasty in the riding that began with his father in 1967.
Graham took 64 per cent of the popular vote. PC Aldeo Saulnier took 33 per cent, and NDP candidate Graham Cox captured only three per cent of the vote.
Four former NDP candidates in Kent endorsed Saulnier in an attempt to defeat Graham over his apparent support of a factory hog-farm operation. Neighbours of the farm complained about the smell and manure handling, and many in the riding blame Graham for bringing the farm to the area.
Graham is the second generation in his family to represent the riding of Kent for the Liberals. His father, Alan Graham, was only 25 when first elected in 1967. He held the riding for 31 years until his retirement. The torch was passed to his son in a 1998 byelection.
Graham grew up in the small Kent County town of Rexton. He attended the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University, earning degrees in physical education and education. He is married to Roxanne Reeves.
