A former environment journalist has been named deputy leader of Canada's Green Party.
Jacques Rivard said his leap into politics is a natural progression in his long career. He spent more than two decades covering the environment as a journalist for CBC's French-language service, Radio-Canada, and has lectured extensively around the world on environmental affairs.
At a news conference in Montreal, Green Leader Elizabeth May said she is "very fortunate" that Rivard joined the party and will be able to build bridges with Quebec voters.
Rivard will act as deputy leader along with Adriane Carr, a Green Party candidate in Vancouver Centre.
