A 35-year-old man has died after being shot by police in the Outaouais Sunday night.

The incident took place after Quebec provincial police responded to a 911 call at an apartment in Papineauville, about 50 kilometres east of Ottawa around 7:30 p.m., Montreal police said Monday.

The man had charged a police officer while brandishing a knife, said Montreal Police Const. Raphael Bergeron.

Police shot the man several times. He was sent to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Montreal police are investigating the incident because Quebec provincial police were involved and therefore cannot conduct the investigation themselves.
