Vaillancourt wins 6th term as Laval mayor

Gilles Vaillancourt has been elected for a sixth straight time as Laval mayor.

Vaillancourt was declared winner in the suburban city north of Montreal, garnering at least 61 per cent of the vote after being widely expected to win.

The bigger question was whether his political party, le Parti PRO des Lavallois, would dominate in the city's 21 electoral districts.

Vaillancourt's last two administrations sat without opposition at Laval's city hall.
