Eight new cases of swine flu have been identified in Quebec, all among "young people," the province's health authority said Tuesday.
Six of the new cases are on the island of Montreal, and the other two are in the Quebec City region.
The Montreal cases include a Grade 5 student at Purcell Academy in Pierrefonds, on Montreal's West Island.
Quebec public health authorities said the school's community and staff have been informed of the case, which is described as mild.
"The student has been out of the school for about a week, exhibiting symptoms of the flu," said Marcus Tabachnick, chairman of the Lester B. Pearson School Board.
"Several days ago the parents took the child to a clinic, and the test results came back today confirming the H1N1 strain of the virus."
Purcell Academy will remain open for other students, and parents are being updated regularly, Tabachnick said.
Another case of H1N1 Influenza A was tracked in a music student at Vanier College. The Quebec Ministry of Health informed the school of the case Tuesday, and said the student has been home sick since last week.
According to officials, there are now 25 confirmed cases of swine flu in Quebec.
