It was the icing on the cake for NDP Leader Gary Doer on Tuesday night — handily winning his home riding, Concordia.
Doer received 68 per cent of the popular vote and was more than 2,500 votes ahead of his nearest challenger, PC candidate Ken Waddell.
Waddell finished with about 21 per cent of the votes cast in the Winnipeg riding. Liberal Leslie Worthington finished third. Fourth place in the riding went to Green Party leader Andrew Basham.
Waddell, like Worthington, had challenged Doer in 2003.
In that race, Doer received about 77 per cent of the popular vote, while Waddell took 16 per cent and Worthington finished with slightly more than 7 per
cent.
