Winnipeggers will be paying more for water and sewer services in the new year after council approved a rate hike on Wednesday.
The new rates, effective Jan. 1, will cost the average homeowner about $21 more a year.
The 2.7 per cent rate increase had previously been endorsed by the city's infrastructure renewal and public works committee.
The increase was recommended in a report from city administration, which suggested that substantial rate increases are necessary to cover rising operating costs and demands from the province to meet a variety of environmental standards.
