A 36-year-old Manitoba man was arrested this week after allegedly assaulting his neighbour with a gun.
The incident happened in Portage la Prairie, about 70 kilometres west of Winnipeg, at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, when a man went to a residence on the city's east side, then allegedly threatened and struck a 50-year-old man with a firearm, RCMP said.
The suspect also attempted to stab the man with a knife, police said. As the scuffle was happening, the gun discharged and the suspect ran off, police added.
Officers arrested the suspect without incident and charged him with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, uttering threats and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie provincial court on Nov. 6.
Names are not being released to protect the identity of the victim, who refused medical attention, police said.
