House fire claims 1 life on God's Lake First Nation

Last Updated: Friday, November 6, 2009 | 6:25 PM CT

A late-night fire at a home on the God's Lake First Nation has claimed the life of one person.

The fire, which police said quickly engulfed the home, was reported to RCMP around 11:00 p.m. Thursday.

A number of people were able to get out, but one female was unaccounted for.

Police said a local water truck was used to try and douse the flames, but the house was lost.

Police said they found some human remains in the rubble and were waiting for the results of an autopsy to identify them.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated. Police could not provide an estimate of the damage but said the home was completely destroyed by the fire.

The God's Lake First Nation community is about 600 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
